Coaching Sessions

Speed Coaching sessions are not meant to solve major business problems, but provide tip-oriented advice and guidance. Participants are encouraged to bring materials related to their business questions to share with coaches. Participants may have specific questions for you, but if not, we have prepared information below to help you get the conversation started.

What to Expect

15 Minutes

Participants rotate through the 15-minute sessions they signed up for upon arrival. You will coach at least three sessions. Groups will depend on the size of the venue. Coaching can be one-on-one or in small groups.

Coaching Session

The sessions are an opportunity for small business owners to meet for personalized sessions with coaches of varying fields of expertise.

Questions

If you don’t know the answer to a query or are not comfortable answering a question, refer the Participant to another coach who is present at the Speed Coaching event, if possible.

Preparing For the Event

Your Role As A Coach

  • Before the event starts, think about five general, tangible tips that are important to success in your discipline. You might want to think about them in terms of “tricks of the trade” that have contributed to your own success.

  • Remember that small business owners often do not have the available resources of larger businesses, so the advice you provide should not be expensive or labor intensive to execute.

  • Whenever possible, offer positive, encouraging, and constructive feedback. Please be sensitive in how you provide your counsel. Remember that you are advising on something that is extremely personal and important to the entrepreneurs.

Conversation Starters

You may find that small business owners want to benefit from your advice but don’t ask specific questions. Try to get the business owners talking. Here are some conversation starters:

  • What is the biggest challenge you are facing in ___? (insert your discipline – example: logo)
  • Is there something you have tried that didn’t go as planned?
  • Have you thought about alternative ways to do ___? (insert your discipline)
  • Is your product being sold in any stores? How is that going?
  • What obstacles are you still facing?
